Welcome

The Anchor Church Fife is a family of believers from in and around West Fife, who love God and desire to see lives changed by the grace of God.

What we believe

1. God

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit - equal in deity, distinct in role, united in purpose, infinite in holiness, wisdom, power and love; sovereign in creation, providence, redemption and judgement.

Biblical Basis: Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 45:5-6, Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14

2. The Bible

We believe the Holy Scriptures, consisting of the Old and New Testaments alone, are the complete, infallible, sufficient Word of God, the final authority for faith and life, inspired by the Holy Spirit and sufficient for every matter of belief and practice.

Biblical Basis: 2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:20–21

3. Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, and lived a sinless life in obedience to the Father. He taught with authority and all his words are true. On the cross he died in the place of sinners, bearing God’s punishment for their sin, redeeming them by his blood. He rose from the dead and in his resurrection body ascended into heaven where he is exalted as Lord of all, and intercedes for his people in the presence of the Father.

Biblical Basis: John 1:1–14; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Colossians 1:15–20; Hebrews 1:3

4. The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit glorifies Christ by applying his work of salvation, convicting of sin, regenerating hearts, indwelling believers, bringing assurance of salvation and sanctifying believers into an increasing likeness to Christ, empowering them for godly living and service to God’s glory.

Biblical Basis: John 3:5-8; John 16:8; John 16:14; Romans 8:16; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Acts 1:8

 5. Creation & Humanity

We believe God created all things and sustains them for His glory. He made all people in His image, male and female, to know, love, and serve Him, yet all are fallen in sin, separated from God, and therefore under the just condemnation of God, and need to be born again, forgiven and reconciled to God in order to know and please him.

Biblical Basis: Genesis 1:1; Genesis 1:26–27; Colossians 1:16–17; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12; John 3:3

 6. Salvation

We believe salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. It is the gift of God offered to all, entirely a work of God’s grace and cannot be earned or deserved. God in his love forgives sinners, whom he calls, granting them repentance and faith, brought about by the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit.

Biblical Basis: Ephesians 2:8–9; Romans 5:8; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; 2 Timothy 1:9

 7. The Church

We believe the universal church is the body of Christ, made up of all believers, with Jesus as the Head. The local church is called to worship, preaching of the word, fellowship, discipleship, service, evangelism and the faithful practice of the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s supper, remaining faithful to the gospel.

Biblical Basis: 1 Corinthians 12:27; Acts 2:42; Ephesians 1:22–23; Ephesians 4:11–16

 8. Baptism & the Lord’s Supper

We believe Christ commanded two ordinances as visible signs of the gospel:

Baptism, as a sign of union with Christ and public profession of faith, but does not impart spiritual life.

The Lord’s Supper, as a remembrance of His death and a proclamation of His return, and involves no change in the bread and wine.

Biblical Basis: Matthew 28:19; Acts 8:36–38; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26

 9. Christian Life and mission

We believe Christians are called to walk in holiness, love, and obedience to God’s Word, empowered by the Spirit. We affirm the sanctity of human life created in the image of God, created male and female as identified by our biological sex, and each having inherent and equal dignity and worth. Marriage is the exclusive union of one man and one woman, and is a picture of the relationship between Christ and his bride the church.

Biblical Basis: 1 Peter 1:15–16; Genesis 1:27; Genesis 2:24; Galatians 5:22–23; Ephesians 5:25–32

10. Our hope and purpose

We believe our chief end is to glorify God, to enjoy Him forever and affirm unity with all who confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. We are committed to the truth of the gospel, the authority of Scripture, sharing life in Christ, and making disciples of all nations.

Biblical Basis: 1 Corinthians 10:31; Psalm 16:11; Matthew 28:19–20

11. The future

We believe in the visible, bodily return of Jesus Christ, the final judgment, the resurrection of the dead, eternal life with God for believers and that God will create a new heaven and a new earth.

Biblical Basis: Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17; Revelation 21:1–4; Revelation 20:11–15
